Acne Masks

With the Summer weather and current protective mask requirements, many people are experiencing increased acne breakouts. To treat and prevent breakouts, you may consider adding a weekly acne mask to your skincare routine.

Acne is bacterial linked inflammation caused by Propionibacterium acnes, bacteria that lives on the skin but may cause local infections (pimples) when trapped in the pores. Most acne is triggered by excess sebum production creating a layer of sebum on the surface which blocks the pores. There is, however, also dry acne which is caused by insufficient sebum flow contributing to bacteria becoming trapped in the pores instead of moving with the sebum. Dry acne does not respond well to the drying ingredients that are great for traditional oily acne.

Effective acne skincare will include antibacterial ingredients such as melaleuca, CBD, sulfur, azelaic acid, salicylic acid and other botanical based ingredients.

Most masks also include drying, purifying ingredients typically clay based.

OSEA Malibu Red Algae Mask is a great natural, botanical based, organic algae mask that works for most acneic skin types. OSEA sources organic seaweed which is hand-foraged in an environmentally friendly manner and featured throughout their line. Their products are vegan, non-toxic and free of parabens, phthlates, SLS, sythentic fragrances and gluten. This mask features seaweed for collagen protection, french clays to dry excess oil and remove impurities, as well as malalueca and juniper oils for antibacterial benefit. HERE IS THE LINK

Color Up Detox Clay Masque is my favorite mask. It (like CBD products in general) is good for multiple skin concerns that are difficult to address in one product. This is my recommendation for people suffering from dry acne and people who have acne prone sensitive skin (like myself). It features CBD, clays, essential oils and natural moisturizing ingredients. To read more about CBD read my post (blog link HERE). To purchase visit Color Up’s website LINK HERE.

Caudalie Purifying Mask is a wonderful skin treatment for addressing acne concerns. It has a unique feature of Sage as an astrigent ingredient as well as the traditional clay. Caudalie is a natural, plant-based skincare line based around Reservatrol and grape ingredients which are also included in this product. It will not dry out your skin and does leave it very soft!
